I am ready to start the process anew after researching other ideas further. I then removed all the software, cleaned the registry, and restarted the laptop. The app also told me that all the software was not installed. I just got through trying the HP Smart app from the Windows store, but the same thing happened, "default, error". I decided to try the HP Print and Scan Doctor, and after downloading and installing the software again, the same thing happened, "default, error". I once again tried to print a test page, and the same thing happened. I then tried the Win10 printer trouble shooter, and it came back with corrected errors for "clear page error" and "reset print server". I am assuming this meant that my C5180 is the default printer and there was an error in printing. However, when I tried to print a test page, the system failed, and the message on the Printers and Devices Settings page icon says "default, error". The software did download completely and the printer showed as installed. I retried your list exactly as you suggested and I did get a bit further. I am out of ideas and I really need the system to work again. I have had to go through the task manager on the laptop to stop the process each time it hung in order to start over. This time I have gone through the process 3 times and it keeps hanging at 42%. These steps always got the system up and running again. I then went through the complete installation using the software, and going through it completely using the HP Print and Scan Doctor. I then rebooted the laptop, and went to the HP website and downloaded the latest install software for my unit. I then completely cleaned the registry and backups by using CCleaner. My laptop is connected to the gateway wirelessly.Įvery other time this happened I completely removed all trace of the HP software installation, including all accesory installations, and removed the C5180 from the Printer/Scanner list on the Win10 Settings. I have the system set up through an ethernet connection to my gateway/router. I realize that the C5180 is a bit old and this problem has come up before after Win10 updates. My C5180 All-in-One stopped working after the Windows 10 Spring Update.
